Baby Bedtime Protest

The sleep struggle is real.

We are lucky to have a great sleeper (7-9 straight hours without issue) having completed her transition to her big girl bed. We haven’t had any issues until just recently.

Since P became super mobile (crawling, pulling herself up, sitting up on her own), she hasn’t been able to get to sleep and stay asleep. She just sits in her bed and cries, rocking back and forth and throwing around her paci – full on tantrum mode. This goes on all through the night.

We thought it was because of the cold she had so I was okay with breaking up our normal routine. I initially thought it could be teething-related but no… Gums aren’t red. No little white bumps yet. Who knows though… I thought she was teething for months and nothing has shown up. I really want to get her back to her normal sleeping pattern. She’s definitely not on board.

Once we put her down and the bedtime tantrum begins, we try to let her cry it out but after 10-15 minutes, it is very clear she isn’t going to go back to bed and will cry for as long as she needs to until we take her out. We put her on the floor, she smiles (indicating she has won) and she crawls out of the room to go play around the house. Not sleeping but yawning the entire time. We try everything to get her comfortable to go to bed – nursing, clean diaper, rocking, music, bathtime, story time… everything.

The only thing we have tried that has gotten her sleep is to to swaddle her and sleep next to her on the floor. We’re on Day 5 of sleeping on the floor (after at least an hour of battling her in the crib) and I don’t want her getting used to this arrangement. She keeps winning.

I just want to know when things will go back to normal.
